A green oak pergola is made from freshly cut oak timber that still contains its natural moisture (around 25–30%). Unlike seasoned or kiln-dried oak, green oak is easier to work with and offers a distinctive, rustic character. As the timber naturally dries, it develops gentle surface cracks and a silvery-grey patina — creating an authentic, weathered look that becomes even more beautiful with age. The term “green” refers to the freshness of the wood, not its colour.
All Timber Solution pergolas are crafted from sustainably sourced, fresh-sawn, QP1 grade solid French Oak. We never use laminated, jointed, or bolted beams — every component is made from a single, solid piece of oak for superior strength, durability, and appearance.
Every Timber Solution pergola is built using traditional mortise and tenon joints, a time-honoured technique that has been trusted for centuries in oak framing. Each joint is precisely cut and secured with solid oak pegs, providing a tight, long-lasting connection without the need for visible metal fixings. This craftsmanship ensures exceptional stability while preserving the natural beauty of solid oak.
Each pergola kit is CNC-machined for millimetre accuracy and supplied in one-, two-, or three-bay configurations. All kits include oak pegs and clear installation instructions for an exact, professional fit.
All components are planed and finely finished, with slightly rounded beam corners for a clean, elegant look. We do not supply rough-sawn or unplaned beams. Every joist and connection point is pre-cut, so no additional carpentry work is required on site.
Our pergolas are designed to be DIY-friendly, allowing most clients to install them with only basic handyman skills. With Timber Solution, you receive a true solid oak structure — expertly engineered, beautifully finished, and built to stand the test of time.
A well-built green oak pergola can last 25–40 years or more, thanks to oak’s natural tannin content, which protects against rot, insects, and fungi. As the timber seasons, it becomes harder and more stable — strengthening with age.
What Affects Lifespan:
Green oak is naturally durable and low maintenance. It doesn’t need paint or chemical treatments — simply allow it to weather naturally or apply a breathable oil every few years.
Easy Care Tips:
Over time, the oak oxidises, turning from honey brown to a soft silver-grey. This natural aging doesn’t weaken the structure — it enhances its charm, allowing the pergola to blend beautifully with brick, stone, and garden landscapes.
A green oak pergola offers unmatched durability, minimal upkeep, and timeless character. Built to last for decades, it weathers gracefully and requires little maintenance — making it an ideal choice for homeowners seeking a natural, long-lasting garden feature.
